Week Ahead: Nevermore, Ghost Train, Haunted Miniature Golf and More

Take a look at some of the Halloween events this week.

Since Halloween falls on a Thursday this year, many local events are taking place before the official date. Take a look at highlights from the week ahead in Northern Virginia. 

In the spirit of Halloween, Lorton’s Workhouse Arts Center is having a program honoring Edgar Allen Poe, “In Concert: The Music of Nevermore.” Listen to musical interpretations’ of Poe’s works. Get tickets and find out more information

Go on a spooky ride for the 33rd annual Ghost Train at Burke Lake Park. The event is at 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the park on 7314 Ox Road in Fairfax Station. Ride the train, get on the bounce house, take a ride on the carousel and more.

Fairfax charity Our Daily Bread is hosting a service project event called “Complete the Circle” from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Fairfax High School. Volunteers will form a “living panting” that will be photographed from the sky. Food donations and volunteers make up the artwork. Find out how to participate.   

Play Haunted miniature golf at Oak Mar for ages 3 to 12. Kids can trick-or-treat and play golf on Friday and Saturday at the course next to the Oak Marr ReCenter on 3200 Jermantown Road in Oakton. For more information and to register, call Oak Marr at 703-281-6501.

Celebrate All Hollows’ Eve by finding out more about the holiday in Woodbridge. Organizers will discuss how Halloween traditions like pumpkin carving and trick-or-treating began. The event is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Rippon Lodge Historic Site on 15520 Blackburn Road in Woodbridge. Call 703-499-9812 for more information.
