Tysons Corner Runners Compete in Boston Marathon

No word on whether the three runners from Tysons were injured in explosions near the finish line.

The 117th Boston Marathon started Monday morning with 26 seconds of silence to honor Sandy Hook victims. About three hours after the first runners finished, there were reports of explosions near the finish line.

The Patriot-Ledger is reporting two booms were heard from inside the Fairmount Copley Hotel near the finish line on Boylston Street.

Athorities have confirmed that three people have died and more than 100 have been injured.

Police in DC and the surrounding area are on heightened alert this afternoon.

There were three runners (two men and one woman) from Tysons' 22102 Zip code registered to run the 2013 Boston Marathon. The race shut down immediately when security became a concern, but it appears that at least two of Tysons' runners finished the race before it ended.

John Hartin was the fastest runner from Tysons, with a net finish time of 03:07:20.

Lelisa Desisa Benti was the men's winner of the Boston Marathon Monday morning with Rita Jeptoo winning the women's division, according to The Washington Post.

Benti of Ethiopia won the 117th Boston Marathon race with a time of 2 hours, 10 minutes and 22 seconds. This was his second marathon after winning a marathon earlier this year in Dubai.

Jeptoo of Kenya won with 2 hours, 26 minutes and 25 seconds. She also won the Boston Marathon in 2006.
