The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Tuesday Cityline Partners’ plans for approximately 20 acres of redevelopment in Tysons.
Cityline’s development, “Arbor Row,” will bring 2.6 million square feet of development to Westpark Drive, within a half-mile of the Tysons Corner Metro Station.
“I am pleased that Cityline’s redevelopment plans are moving forward,” Chairman Sharon Bulova said. “Not only does the project promote connectivity and accessibility as well as provide a number of community amenities to the area, but it also represents significant progress in realizing the vision of Tysons that was set forth by the Board two years ago.”
The development comprises 1.1 million square feet of office space and three residential buildings with as many as 1,100 units, a hotel and 60,000 square feet of retail space.
Cityline, Tysons biggest landowner, will also provide an eight-acre plot with two synthetic turf athletic fields with lights and parking, a picnic and overlook area and a stream.
The area is currently occupied by office buildings and parking garages built between 1970 and 1975, officials said.
The Fairfax County Planning Commission expects that construction could begin on Arbor Row as soon as early 2014.
The Board approved another large redevelopment project – the massive overhaul of Capital One’s headquarters in McLean – two months ago. Both projects move Tysons closer to the county’s vision of an urban center thriving along with the Silver Line.
