UPC, Fairfax County Police Host Conference at Falls Church High

The "Striving for a Healthier Way" Prevention Conference focuses on deterring middle school-aged students from using drugs and teaches them to manage stress.

Fairfax County Police along with other community groups will join the Unified Prevention Coalition [UPC] of Fairfax County at Falls Church High School on Saturday for the “Striving for a Healthier Way” Prevention Conference.

The conference will go from 8:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The conference focuses on middle school-aged students and their parents and will promote healthy ways for the students to manage stress and deter use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, according to a press release.

“The Fairfax County Police Department is a vital partner with the Unified Prevention Coalition in working to prevent alcohol and other drug use during these transition years by supporting healthy teen growth,” UPC Executive Director Diane Eckert said in a press release. “Our police officers truly care for the safety and well-being of our youth.”

The conference will feature several workshops to engage the students and their parents including a “Stay Fit” session and a writing workshop. There will also be a workshop on the current state of illicit drugs in Fairfax County. The conference also will feature an Ideas and Resource Fair, sharing information from community organizations and businesses. The event is partially funded by Virginia ABC and federal SAMHSA grants.
