Nerdwallet: Northern Virginia Top Place for Jobseekers

Vienna, Herndon, and Leesburg were among the best cities for trying to find a job.

Need a job? Then Northern Virginia is the place to be, according to consumer resource website NerdWallet.

Leesburg ranked No. 1 for job seekers, with an unemployment rate of 5.8 percent compared with the 7.3 percent national average, according to the website. Leesburg edged out Vienna, Herndon, Arlington and Manassas in the top five.

How did NerdWallet come up with its list? Here are the criteria listed with the report.

1.   Is the city growing? We assessed population growth of those 16 and over to ensure that the city is attracting workers.

2.   Do people earn high salaries? We included median household income in the calculation.

3.   Are most people employed? We looked at the unemployment rate.
