Notice Something Different? New Upgrades on Patch

More Headlines, Better Conversation

We know what you were thinking when you woke up June 17 to a redesigned Tysons Patch: what happened?

But it wasn't something we decided to do in the wee hours that night. We had a mission: to make the site easier to use, to make MORE of the news and local voices appear on the home page and have the tools you need to connect with your community  — about everything from proposed development and construction to new bus routes — at your fingertips.

We knew the site could be more vibrant like Tysons itself. And, like with most major life changes, it wasn't a one and done deal — instead, the new look would be an evolving, ever-changing process.

Part of that process is your feedback (and yes, we've read and heard all of it). We thank you for that, because our engineers have used it to make tweaks and adjustments that have resulted in a better site for everyone.

Speaking of those changes, here's what you can expect to see starting now:

  • What People Are Saying — Now you can zero in on the hot topics right away. Our revamped “shout stream” shows the most commented and recommended articles and board posts in real time. It’s easy to jump in and have your say.
  • More News — We’ve added more news headlines to the homepage and daily newsletter.
  • Email This — We know not everyone shares — or cares to share — on social networks. Sometimes you just want to do it the ‘old-fashioned’ way, via email. That’s back too, along with a handy Print button.
  • News Alerts — At Patch, we live to keep you in the know. News alert banners will stretch across the homepage and article pages when you need to know something big.
  • Easier Navigation — We’ve refined our navigation. Now you’ll see a dedicated News/Features tab, and another just for local blogs. Soon to come:
  • Grab the Sunscreen — Your local weather will be back soon too!
Any other ideas to improve the site? Fire away!

See you soon
